Yet another great 4th of July weekend has come and (unfortunately) gone again from the high and pleasant banks of the Pungo. With only minor injuries to report and merely a small fire on the pier during the fireworks, this author is prepared to say that the weekend was a great success.
Friday (the actual day of the 4th) was a beautiful day, with loads of quality boating up and down the shore and a chorus of jet skiis singing in the air. Regards to Jeff Mann and the DeHoogs upon the unfortunate overheating of their boats. Rescue efforts were smooth and swift - thanks to all.
That evening we were all treated to a wine tasting at Susan and Mark Mann's and some fantastic fireworks courtesy of the fearless David and Karma. It was definately the best fireworks show we've seen at Woodstock in quite some time! And, despite being right next to Mark and Walter's boat with a nice strong wind in that direction, the fireworks did not damage the boat or lift! Hooray!
Saturday was the day of the real festivities. The theme this year was Colonial Woodstock. The games were a blast, (thanks Kathy and Mike!) and the "Bounce House" was a hit with big kids and little ones alike. The parade was small this year, but the spectators were enthusiastic and the costumes amazing. All of the kids in the parade looked great! We will post more on the meeting when we get the official minutes, but the basic decisions were:
Richard Mann is the new mayor. Thanks to Kenny Powell for his great 2 years of service.
Susan Mann will remain the treasurer. On that note, road taxes are up to $100 thanks to the cost of gas. That amount is due to Susan.
Kevin and Brandy Mann will take over the theme and games next year, though I'm sure plenty of us will be very happy to help out! Festivities will be held on Saturday, July 4th.
Also, no more darts. Ever.
Dinner was, as usual, an amazing time of fellowship and fun. While the kids occupied themselves in the bounce house, the grown ups ate plenty and got caught up with all of the family and friends we're so lucky to have collected on the shores of the Pungo. It was great to meet some of the new lucky folks who have married into Woodstock, and the new little ones who will enjoy all of the fun of being mostly unsupervised at the River for many years to come.
I am already looking foward to 2009!!

Hello all!! As a former resident at Woodstock I think its great that you all have a web-site to keep up with whats going on out there. We really miss being there this time of the year. I started going down there when I was a day or 2 old in 1970 and have some great memories on the banks of The Pungo. Please keep the site going and updated and post some pictures of the scenery. Ya'll take care!!
