A Pirates Delight
Monday, July 6, 2009

Well the 4th celebration this year went off without a hitch. The pirate theme was carried throughout the weekend from the movie showing nights to the mutiny of the Pungo Pirates on parade. Young and old sported wonderfully creative costumes. Even Mayor Richard was decked out!

Friday night started off the celebration with a late showing of Pirates of the Caribbean in the Mayor's yard. Refreshments were served..including Pirates Booty snacks to support the theme. Guests fought off the mosquitoes like true scalleywags.

Saturday started off with a rousing Pirate parade. The DeHoog crowd was in full force to protect Miss Woodstock and Little Miss Woodstock. Mr. Hank Hudson and Miss Samantha Warren were up next in some swashbuckeling swag. Next up was the Cubbedge crowd with Mayor Richard pulling up the rear. The parade ended with the Pungo Pirates robbing the citizens and the citizens responding with a mutiny. It was great fun with great costumes for all.

The next event was the fun and games by Brandy and Kevin Mann. This year we were able to have our own version of "walking the plank" with a dunking booth that was a hit with everyone....especially when Jeff, Ray, Michael Rhoades, Billie Jean, and Tyler were up for grabs. There was also a good ole tattoo parlor and a treasure hunt for candy with all the kids. For the second year in a row, the bounce house was a huge success with new obstacles. Overall the games were a great time for the whole community.

The annual town meeting was quick and painless. The meeting notes will be listed ASAP in a seperate post.

Dinner was served at 6 o clock. Mayor Mann splurged for a nice tent this year which seemed to keep the heat down and a calm atmosphere. Loads of yummy dishes were present and a lovely gathering was complete. Fireworks and another pirate night movie capped off the evening of a wonderful day.

Next year's theme has now been set to "Under the Sea". Hopefully we can make it another amazing year.
