Friday Night (from Jan and Arie):
Here's some shots of hurricane Irene and Arie fixing crabs last night. I put my old faithful hurricane jacket on (raincoat) and went out and braved the weather to get these shots. The wind is pretty much coming from the north east.
Saturday(from Jan and Arie): Here are some pics of Hurricane Irene. It's not over yet, the eye is near us so it's calmer right now. Winds were around 90 mph we're guessing, since we can't get the news. The problem came not with the wind but with the slow movement and consistent wind and waves. We do have a generator so have been pretty comfy. But now starts clean up, very soon. Our neighbor's pier bench is in our yard, along with our other neighbor's water pump. It continues to rain. The road in here is more flooded than it has ever been. It is like one big lake from our house way back to the curve in the road where you first enter Woodstock. The house we rent almost had water in it, which has never happened. We have water in our garage and under our house for the first time ever. Our shingles are really off the roof in big patches. We have plastic tablecloths everywhere to protect the laminate floor and swimming pools to catch water. Arie thinks the sides of the boat house have been ruined. The roof certainly. And the wooden platform around it is floating around. I think our concrete pier held up, will know better when the water recedes. (YAY) Kenny's pecan tree is down. We have a big branch out of ours. Our neighbor down the lane has a tree on his shed where he keeps his truck and boat. Once this is over we'll get out and start helping folks. But right now, it's pouring again. Arie and Joy's girls are over to our neighbors mopping their floor which is wet.
For a while, we really had river front property! When will we be too old for this??? But thank you one and all for your prayers. The important thing is we are all fine and so is everyone else. We were witness to God's power yet again! And His grace.

The dyke broke in Swanquarter we just found out, and that's why so much water?? Mark and Susan, we damp mopped your kitchen floor. Bernie, Arie says you have a lot of nerve putting your bench in our yard. Please know guys, that the wind is howling again, going the other direction and it's what we need to get the water out of here, but we will check Bernies and Trena's house as soon as we can. I think the wind is almost worse now than before. It's literally howling. We'll stay in touch. If you need to call, call us on our cell phones. |
